started: 01/13/01

I have started a small gallery of some images I have made. I will add more as time permits. These lo-res versions don't do the images justice. Speaking of low res, if you would like a high resolution image of one of these (for your desktop, or for legal purposes, like if I violated your copyright and you need a copy of the image to file court documents) let me know, I can whip one out "fer ya" (as we say 'round here)...

Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX (or so)

05/07/01

Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX (prototype flew in 1939. The Mark IX appeared in 1944)
date: 05/07/01
polycount: 5190 vertices / 10287 faces
notes: I've always liked the Spitfire: it's just an awesome aircraft.
This one isn't quite done (there are no markings on it) but I wanted to put some pictures up anyway. This model went MUCH smoother than my first one. There are still some problems: some parts where the camoflauge textures don't line up and some jagged spots.
This one has retractable landing gear, the propellers rotate and the rear control surfaces move. Oh yeah, and the cockpit opens.
I went to the "trouble" of making a cloud background, but I screwed up so in some images you can see a giant crease in the clouds (just like in real-life)...er ...
But overall, I'm pretty happy with this one.
Now the Messerschmitt has someone to dogfight with.

Messerschmitt Me163 Komet (1944)

05/01/01

Messerschmitt Me163 Komet (1944)
date: 05/01/01
polycount: 2620 vertices / 4494 faces
notes: This is my first attempt at mesh modeling. All my prior models were made by manipulating shapes. This one I made from scratch with mesh patches. I learned a lot making this model, from making polygons (triangles) by hand to mult-texturing.
I chose the Me163 model because it is about the simplest model I could find.
You don't have to look closely to see a number of mistakes I made, for example, this model has about ten times more vertices than it really needs, the parts don't connect correctly and the decals aren't applied very well, but I think I can do better on my next attempt.
ps - I know the sky background is really corny, but I wasn't in the mood to make a more realistic sky background...
